Wrote this poem after the birth of our second grandson during the pandemic May 2020.  He brought us so much happiness and made our little Mason a big brother.  Joy in the midst of all this uncertainty, we welcome him into our lives.

Hi, It’s Nana,
the woman who
will automatically
love you forever.
I was so privileged to
watch you bloom
inside your Mother’s
stomach, each step
watching you grow.
A bubble as Mason
would say.
Floating happily,
muted sounds, soft
music and your
parents voices,
but all life must
change and we
were so excited to
finally meet you.
May 23rd you arrived
in a crazy time
a world pandemic,
the great pause.
Still when you
rounded that corner
of your yard
with your parents,
just home from the hospital.
I knew it would be a forever
love, your sweet face,
peacefully sleeping.
Your big brother
crouched down on his knees
to meet you,
I knew it was love at
first site for him too.
Every once in a while
you would open your eyes
and peer out at the world.
But mostly I was so
very proud to hold you.
Hold you close
in the promise of
protection and
unconditional love.
Softness, newness,
innocence and joy.
I can’t imagine now
anyone but you,
my second grandson
Hayes Christopher,
my forever love.
Welcome to the world
little one.
